The Dream

The writing was talented, the hope of being published was there, and a diligent effort to submit work for consideration happened from the early 80’s until 2010. But with many more, ‘no thank you’s’, than publishing offers, the dream died.

Then along came the writer’s kid, and the whole, ‘let’s get this writing published’ thing started again. I could self-publish “Bluebell”, the novel I’m focusing my efforts on, and hope for the best. But, with over 1 Million self-published titles in 2018 alone, I’m not ready to throw dad’s writing into a tsunami of stories and hope it washes up on a best seller’s list. I want to do for him what American Idol did for Kelly Clarkson and I’m looking for your help.

At the end of this page, I’ll share some links to other places where you can learn how to aid me in my efforts to get my dad’s writing widely read and also ways we can brainstorm about ideas that could help. But first, a little more about Kelly Clarkson and her similarity with my father.

Based on her triumph as the Season One winner of American Idol, few would doubt her talent. But many may not realize that her dream of a music career was headed in the opposite direction until she accepted her friends encouragement to try out for the show. What I learned from that is behind every strategy I’m using for this project: “Success isn’t necessarily a measurement of talent.”

That’s why my goal, of this page, and any other ideas I come up with, is to get enough people familiar with dad’s writing, so that when his first book is self-published, we’ll have another ‘American Idol’ for people to celebrate.

Not on board yet? Perhaps you’re wondering if dad’s writing is really any good and that’s a fair question, so here’s a way to fact check my opinion.

Ready to Help? So Glad if you are and here’s a list of things you can do.

  • Join Make the Dream Real – This is our Facebook group intended for people who want to help me with my project.
  • Share Some Pages and Posts – You’ll find posts from this blog and some posted to our Facebook page.
  • Let’s Brainstorm – A special page created for you to share your ideas about what I could do to make dad’s dream come true.

By the way, I plan on growing this list so signing up for email updates will give you a head’s up when something new has been added and give you three free short stories, instead of the one mentioned earlier, and a whole lot more.
